LAST WEEK, THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD APPOINTED SCOTT JOHNSON AS INTERIM DISTRICT 1 COMMISSIONER, REPLACING THE LATE JOHN HORNER. GLENDA PHILLIPE AND KEVIN BRUCE WERE THE OTHERS WHO HAD APPLIED… THEY ARE BOTH ALSO SEEKING THE NEW FOUR YEAR TERM THROUGH THE NOVEMBER ELECTION.

MAIL BALLOTS FOR THE PRIMARY ELECTION WILL BE MAILED OUT JULY 15 TO ALL RESIDENTS WHO ARE REGISTERED IN A NUMBER OF MAIL-BALLOT PRECINCTS INCLUDING THE CITY OF ROOSEVELT AND STRATHCONA. IF YOU ARE A RESIDENT, AND BELIEVE YOU SHOULD HAVE RECEIVED A BALLOT BUT DO NOT, CALL THE AUDITOR’S OFFICE AT 218-463-1282. THOSE WOULD NEED TO BE RETURNED BY ELECTION DAY, AUGUST 9.

CONGRESSWOMAN MICHELLE FISHBACH IS HOLDING AN OPEN HOUSE TO DAY FROM NOON TO 1:30 AT THE ROSEAU EVENT CENTER. FISHBACH IS SEEKING RE-ELECTION IN NOVEMBER FOR A 2ND TERM IN DISTRICT 7.

THE WILDLIFE DRIVE THROUGH THE ROSEAU RIVER WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA IS SET TO OPEN JULY 16. THE DRIVE TRADITIONALLY OPENS AT THAT TIME OF YEAR, CLOSE TO THE TIME OF THE ROSEAU COUNTY FAIR. THE 27 MILE DRIVE WILL BE OPEN THROUGH JULY 24, AND THEN WEEKENDS THROUGH AUGUST 7.

A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR JASON J. LANNING OF ROOSEVELT WILL BE HELD WEDNESDAY, JULY 6 (11 AM) AT THE WARROAD COMMUNITY CHURCH. VISITATION WILL BE TUESDAY (5-7 PM) AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN WARROAD WITH A 7 PM PRAYER SERVICE. INTERMENT WILL TAKE PLACE AT AMERICAN CEMETERY IN WARROAD. JASON WAS 51.

A DATE FOR FARMERS, BUSINESSES, AND HOMEOWNERS TO DISPOSE OF WASTE WEED KILLERS, HERBICIDES, INSECTICEDES, MICE AND RAT POISONS, FUNGICIDES AND OTHER IS JULY 7TH FROM 10 AM TO 1 PM AT NORHTERN RESOURCES COOPERATIVE IN ROSEAU. EACH PERSON COULD BRING UP TO 300 POUNDS OF WASTE, FREE OF CHARGE.

THERE WAS AT LEAST ONE FIREWORKS RELATED FATALITY IN MINNESOTA. AN 18-YEAR OLD MAN DIED EARLY YESTERDAY AFTER A FIREWORK EXPLODED IN HIS FACE IN BROOKLYN PARK. A FRIEND WAS PERFORMING CPR WHEN OFFICERS ARRIVED. THE MAN WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT A LOCAL HOSPITAL. THE STATE HAD ONE FIREWORK RELATED DEATH LAST YEAR, BUT THEN NONE SINCE 2015.
