CONGRESSWOMAN MICHELLE FISHBACH AND OTHER REPUBLICAN MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE ARE URGING GOVERNOR TIM WALZ TO SUBMIT A MAJOR DISASTER DECLARATION REQUEST ASSOCIATED WITH THE FLOODING IN PARTS OF THE STATE. THAT REQUEST WOULD HELP TO UNLOCK ADDITIONAL FEDERAL RESOURCES.

FISHBACH ALSO HELPED TO INTRODUCE THE “MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR MOMS TO SUCCEED ACT” (MOMS) WHICH WOULD LOOK TO ENHANCE HEALTH, EDUCATION, AND SUPPORT SERVICES FOR BABIES, MOTHERS, AND FAMILIES EMPOWERING THEM TO CHOOSE LIFE AND RAISE A HEALTHY CHILD.

31-YEAR OLD BENJAMINE JOSEPH FORBES OF WARROAD PLEADED GUILTY TO A CLASS A FELONY GROSS SEXUAL IMPOSITION FOR COMMITING A SEXUAL ACT ON AN UNAWARE VICTIM. HE WAS GIVEN A 360-DAY JAIL SENTENCE, WHICH IS ALL SUSPENDED. HE’LL BE ON UNSUPERVISED PROBATION. THIS DATES BACK TO AUGUST OF 2023 WHEN, ACCORDING TO AN AFFADVIT, HE TOUCHED A WOMAN’S GENITALS WHILE THEY SHARED A BED A GRAND FORKS AIR BNB RENTAL.

CHERI JOHNSON, AN AWARD WINNING NOVELIST WHO GREW UP IN LAKE OF THE WOODS COUNTY, WILL BE AT THE ROOSEVELT FLEA MARKET OVER THE 4TH OF JULY HOLIDAY. SHE’LL BE SIGNING TWO BOOKS, “THE GIRL IN DULUTH” AND “ANNIKA ROSE”, BOTH OF THEM SET IN LAKE OF THE WOODS COUNTY.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD WILL MEET IN REGULAR SESSION THIS MORNING. ON THAT AGENDA IS THE HIRING OF A COUNTY AUDITOR-RECORDER-TREASURER, WHICH IS NOW ALL ONE POSITION.

AN AG WASTE COLLECTION DAY WILL BE AT NORTHERN RESOURCES COOP IN ROSEAU ON JULY 9 FROM 10A-1P. THEY’LL BE ACCEPTING OLD AND UNUSED PESTICIDES AND HERBICIDES. UP TO 300 POUNDS CAN BE DISPOSED OF FREE OF CHARGE. FOR LARGER AMOUNTS, PLEASE CALL 218-694-2090.

A CERAMICS WORKSHOP WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE ROSEAU SCHOOL JULY 8-11, WITH BOTH A MORNING AND EVENING CLASS. PARTICIPANTS MUST BE 14 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER. SPACE IS LIMITED. YOU CAN REGISTER WITH ROSEAU COMMUNITY EDUCATION.

THE LAKE OF THE WOODS SCHOOL DISTRICT IS OFFERING A SURVEY TO PARENTS, STAFF, AND ALL COMMUNITY MEMBERS THAT WILL HELP THEM DETERMINE PRIORITIES AND NEED AREAS. IT WILL FOCUS ON FACILITIES, CAPITAL MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONAL NEEDS ALONG WITH POTENTIAL SOLUTIONS. THE SURVEY IS AVAILABLE ONLINE THROUGH THE END OF THE DAY ON JUNE 30. THE LAKE OF THE WOODS AND ROSEAU COUNTY SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICTS HAVE A FIELD DAY PLANNED FOR WEDNESDAY, JULY 10 AT THE ROOSEVELT COMMUNITY CENTER FROM 8-3. REGISTRATION IS REQUESTED, BUT IT IS FREE AND LUNCH IS PROVIDED. THEY’LL HAVE A NUMBER OF PRESENTERS ON HAND.

A Memorial Service for Theodore Fish of Williams, MN will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at 2:00PM at the Williams City Park. Interment will follow the service at Pine Hill Cemetery in Williams, MN.
Ted passed away at the age of 81.

Funeral services for Roberta Lorenson of Middle River will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024 at Grace Evangelical Church, Strathcona, MN at 11:00 am. A visitation will be held at the church from 5-7 pm with a Prayer Service at 7 pm on Thursday, June 27, 2024.
Roberta passed away at the age of 70.

A Graveside service for Dennis Brodshaug of Warroad, MN will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024 at 2:00PM at Norland Cemetery in Salol, MN.
