THERE IS ANOTHER INFORMATIONAL MEETING ON THE ROSEAU SCHOOL OPERATING REFERENDUM BEING HELD THIS EVENING IN THE SCHOOL BAND ROOM. THAT BEGINS AT 6 PM. AGAIN, THE DISTRICTS ASKING TO HAVE AN OPERATING REFERENDUM APPROVED IN THE AMOUNT OF $1050 PER PUPIL.

THE LEECH LAKE BAND OJIBWE WAS RECENTLY AWARDED $3.6 MILLION FROM THE US DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE’S ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATION TO BUILD A WILD RICE PROCESSING FACILITY IN CASS LAKE. THE RICE THAT CURRENTLY HARVESTED IS SENT TO THREE FACILITIES IN DEER RIVER, GULLY, AND CASS LAKE. THIS WOULD BE THE FIRST TRIBAL-OWNED OPERATION OF IT’S KIND IN THE REGION.

Danny Bruce Nelson died Saturday, September 28, 2024, peacefully in his home at Warroad, MN.
A visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 17 at Helgeson’s Funeral Home in Warroad. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 18 at Helgeson’s Funeral Home in Warroad, with a burial to follow at Silent City Cemetery in Roosevelt, MN.

A Memorial Service for LaRae E. Devault will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at 11:00AM at First Lutheran Church in Baudette. Visitation will be held one hour prior at the church. Interment will take place at Elm Park Cemetery.
She passed away at the age of 75.

A Memorial service for Tara M. Halvorson will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 11:00AM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be held at a later date.
Tara passed away at the age of 52.

A Funeral and graveside service are scheduled for Oct 21, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at Border Evangelical Free Church for Barbara Anderson of Baudette.
Barbara passed away at the age of 88.

IN STATEWIDE NEWS, A 13-YEAR OLD BOY FROM RICE WAS KILLED AT A HAUNTED HAYRIDE EVENT IN ST AUGUSTA, MINNESOTA. OFFICIALS RECEIVED THE CALL ON SATURDAY EVENING REPORTING THAT A BOY HAD BEEN RUN OVER BY A TROLLEY WAGON. LIFE SAVING MEASURES WERE ATTEMPTED AT THE SCENE BUT WERE UNSUCCESSFUL. THE INCIDENT REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION.

A TOTAL OF 300 AIRMEN RETURNED TO DULUTH FROM A THREE MONTH DEPLOYMENT IN JAPAN.
