THE AMERICAN RED CROSS RESPONDED TO MORE THAN 970 LOCAL DISASTERS IN MINNESOTA AND THE DAKOTAS IN 2023, PART OF A RECORD YEAR FOR NEEDED ASSISTANCE NATIONALLY. THE REGIONS RED CROSS ALSO DEPLOYED MORE THAN 200 TRAINED RESPONDERS TO DISASTERS SUCH AS THE HAWAII WILDFIRES, HURRICANE IAN, AND OTHERS. THEY ALSO COLLECTED TO THE MOST BLOOD THROUGH DRIVES THAN ANY OTHER REGION AT A TOTAL OF 241,000 UNITS.
MNDOT’S ANNUAL NAME A SNOWPLOW CONTEST IS BACK. THOSE NAMES CAN BE SUBMITTED THROUGH NOON ON DECEMBER 15.
THE AIR FORCE CONFIRMED THAT A MINNESOTAN WAS ONE OF EIGHT MILITARY AIRMEN THAT DIED IN CRASH OFF OF JAPAN ON NOVEMBER 29. 32-YEAR ODL MAJOR JEFFREY HOEERNEMANN WAS FROM ANDOVER. THE CRASH INVOLVED A BELL BOEING V-22 OSPREY AIRCRAFT, WHICH THE MILITARY NOW SAYS THEY HAVE SUSPENDED USE OF THAT AIRCRAFT.
THE CANADIAN PACIFIC HOLIDAY TRAIN WILL ENTER MINNESOTA TOMORROW IN TEH SOUTH AND MAKE IT’S WAY NORTH OVER THE NEXT 10 DAYS. IT EVENTUALLY REACHES THE MAHMOMEN, PLUMMER, THIEF RIVER FALLS AREA ON DECEMBER 14, RANGING FROM 4-8 PM.
NORTHWEST COMMUNITY ACTION’S HEAD START GIVING TREE PROJECT IS UNDERWAY. THROUGH THE PROGRAM, THEY LOOK TO HELP 390 CHILDREN IN THEIR FOUR COUNTY SERVICE AREA RECEIVE CHRISTMAS GIFTS THIS YEAR.
