A RED LAKE MAN HAS BEEN SENTENCED FOR FATALLY SHOOTING A RED LAKE POLICE OFFICER IN 2021. DAVID BRIAN DONNELL JR WAS GIVEN 37 YEARS IN PRISON AFTER PLEADING GUILTY TO ONE COUNT OF SECOND DEGREE MURDER. OFFICERS WERE PERFORMING A WELFARE CHECK AT HIS HOME, AND ATTEMPTED TO TAKE HIM INTO CUSTODY SINCE HE HAD A WARRANT OUT FOR HIS ARREST. GUNFIRE EVENTUALLY ERUPTED, AND OFFICER RYAN BIALKE WAS KILLED.

MINNESOTA STATE COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES ARE ASKING FOR A TUITION FREEZE FOR THEIR 33 PUBLIC COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES. THEY ARE ASKING FOR A BUDGET REQUEST OF $350 MILLION, OF WHICH $75 MILLION WOULD BE DEDICATED TOWARDS FREEZING TUITION. THE MONEY WOULD COME FROM THE STATE’S MASSIVE BUDGET SURPLUS.
