THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL,  THIS WEEK,  PASSED A RESOLUTION ASKING THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY TO  RE-OPEN ALL  93 DRIVER LICENSE TESTING STATIONS IN THE STATE,  INCLUDING ONE AT THE ROSEAU CITY CENTER.

D.P.S.  IS APPARENTLY TO RE-OPEN JUST FOURTEEN TESTING CENTERS,  THE CLOSEST TO ROSEAU BEING BEMIDJI.

THE ROSEAU RESOLUTION SAYS THE PROPOSED PLAN SHIFTS COSTS TO RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES IN SMALLER RURAL COMMUNITIES.

 

THE PERSONAL FINANCE WEBSITE  WalletHub  SAYS NEARLY SIXTY PERCENT OF AMERICANS THINK  COVID-19 HAS CHANGED THE WAY WE WORK FOR THE BETTER.

A  WalletHub  SURVEY SAID A THIRD OF AMERICANS THINK PHYSICAL OFFICES ARE A THING OF THE PAST.

AS FOR WHAT PEOPLE MISS MOST WHEN WORKING FROM HOME,  32% SAID COWORKERS,  AND  27%  SAID  THEY DON’T MISS  ANYTHING.

 

ON A ROSEAU COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT VIRTUAL MEETING THIS WEEK,   EMERGENCY MANAGER SUE GRAFSTROM SAID THE COUNTY HAS ISSUED THREE WEATHER-RELATED  DISASTER DECLARATIONS  OVER THE PAST EIGHTEEN MONTHS; AND THE COVID CRISIS IS THE FOURTH DISASTER.

 

ROSEAU COUNTY HAS HAD TWO RAINFALL EVENTS OF THREE INCHES OR MORE OVER THE PAST WEEK.

ROSEAU RIVER WATERSHED DISTRICT ADMINISTRATOR  TRACY HALSTENSGARD  SAYS THAT INDICATES THE IMPORTANCE OF FLOOD DAMAGE REDUCTION EFFORTS.

 

ROSEAU COUNTY NOW HAS SEVENTEEN CONFIRMED COVID-19 CASES ACCORDING TO THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH WEBSITE.

JUST OVER A WEEK AGO,  THE CASE COUNT IN THE COUNTY WAS SIX.

LAKE OF THE WOODS REMAINS THE ONLY COUNTY IN MINNESOTA WITHOUT A CONFIRMED CASE.

 

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD,  YESTERDAY, HEARD THAT THE COUNTY HAS RECEIVED A  “CARES”  ACT CHECK FOR ABOUT  ONE-POINT-NINE MILLION DOLLARS.

A TOTAL OF MORE THAN TWO AND A HALF MILLION FEDERAL DOLLARS WILL BE SENT TO THE COUNTY, CITIES AND TOWNSHIPS IN ROSEAU COUNTY.

THE COUNTY BOARD DECIDED TO AWAIT FURTHER CLARIFICATION ON  “CARES”  ACT GUIDELINES BEFORE DISTRIBUTING THAT MONEY.

 

19 YEAR OLD JUSTIN BARRETT OF RED LAKE WAS TAKEN TO A BEMIDJI HOSPITAL EARLY YESTERDAY MORNING  (JUST BEFORE TWO A.M.)  AFTER A SINGLE VEHICLE CRASH ON HIGHWAY 89 IN BELTRAMI COUNTY.

BARRETT’S CAR WENT OFF THE HIGHWAY INTO A DITCH.

 

THE INCOME TAX FILING DEADLINE IS A WEEK FROM TODAY  (July 15)  FOR BOTH FEDERAL AND MINNESOTA RETURNS.

PEOPLE WHO WILL OWE MONEY THIS YEAR CAN REQUEST AN EXTENSION, BUT STACY OPITZ WITH A TWIN CITIES GROUP CALLED  PREPARE AND PROSPER,  SAYS THOSE AFFECTED FINANCIALLY BY COVID-19 MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO WAIT.
