A 45-YEAR OLD DETROIT LAKES MAN HAS BEEN CHARGED IN BECKER COUNTY DISTRICT COURT WITH MISDEMEANOR FIFTH-DEGREE ASSAULT AND DISORDERLY CONDUCT. ACCORDING TO COURT RECORDS, PHILLIP SHAWN LOKKEN THREW A BAG OF POPCORN AT A BASKETBALL REFEREE, WAS KICKED OUT OF THE GYM, AND THEN CONFRONTED THE REFEREE ON COURT, RIPPING THE WHISTLE OFF HIS NECK. THE EVENT HAPPENED JANUARY 13, IN A GAME BETWEEN LAKE PARK-AUDUBON AND WIN-E-MAC.
DEPUTY DAKOTA CZERNY HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS THE MAHNOMEN COUNTY DEPUTY WHO SHOT A 20-YEAR OLD WOMAN, WHO PRODUCED A HANDGUN, WHILE BEING DETAINED AFTER THE VEHICLE SHE WAS A PASSENGER IN ATTEMPTED TO FLEE THE SCENE AFTER A TRAFFIC STOP EARLY SUNDAY MORNING. SHE REMAINS IN A FARGO HOSPITAL. THE PURSUIT ENDED IN THE TOWN OF NAYTAHWASH, WHERE THE VEHICLE DRIVER AND ANOTHER PERSON FLED THAT SCENE ON FOOT. THE EVENTS WERE CAUGHT ON A DASH CAMERA AND BODY CAMERA, BUT WILL NOT BE MADE PUBLIC UNTIL THE CASE IS CLOSED.
THE US SENATE HAS UNANIMOUSLY PASSED A BILL TO MAKE DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME PERMANENT. THE BILL IS CALLED THE SUNSHINE PROTECTION ACT. THE BILL STILL HAS TO GO THROUGH THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES BEFORE IT CAN GO TO PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN. WHITE HOUSE OFFICIALS HAVE NOT COMMENTED ON WHETHER OR NOT BIDEN SUPPORTS IT.
THE AGGRESSIVE MOOSE THAT WAS EUTHANIZED ON THE IRON RANGE LAST WEEK AFTER THREATENING MOTORISTS AND LOGGERS IN THE AREA, APPEARS TO HAVE HAD HEPATITIS DUE TO LIVER FLUKES, CYSTS IN IT’S LUNGS, A WINTER TICK INFESTATION AND BRAINWORM FOUND IN IT’S EYEBALL, LIKELY THE LARGEST CONTRIBUTOR TO IT’S BEHAVIOR. THE STUDIES WERE DONE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA.
SPRING LOAD RESTRICTION ARE ALREADY IN PLACE IN THE SOUTH AND SOUTHEASTERN ZONES OF THE STATE AND SET TO BEGIN THIS WEEK IN THE CENTRAL SEASONAL LOAD LIMIT ZONES THIS WEEK. DATES FURTHER NORTH ARE YET TO BE SET.
