AS AUTHORITIES CONTINUE TO PROSECUTE A WOMAN FOR A DEADLY AMISH BUGGY CRASH IN FILLMORE COUNTY FROM SEPTEMBER, THEY NOW BEGIN TO PROSECUTE ANOTHER BUGGY CRASH THAT HAPPENED LAST MONTH LESS THAN 10 MILES ON THE SAME HIGHWAY AWAY FROM THE SITE OF THE FIRST ONE. TWO CHILDREN WERE SERIOUSLY INJURED IN THIS CRASH, BUT THERE WERE NO FATALITIES. THE WOMAN FACES MULTIPLE CHARGES, INCLUDING FELONY CRIMINAL VEHICULAR OPERATION.

In the U.S., about $220 billion is owed in medical debt. Those with medical debt often cut out expenses like food and clothing to pay it off. Legislators want to help. The bills, SF 4065 and HF 4100 , known collectively as the Minnesota Debt Fairness Act WOULD prohibit hospitals from denying medical care to patients on the basis of money they owe for past care and also prohibit medical debt from automatically being transferred to a spouse and place restraints on medical debt collectors.

AS CITY COUNCILS AND COUNTY BOARDS CONTINUE TO NAVIGATE HOW LEGALIZED CANNABIS WILL BE SOLD IN THEIR AREAS, MOSTLY BEGINNING IN 2025, THE GRAND FORKS HERALD FEATURED AN ONLINE STORY LOOKING AT HOW BRAINERD IS TACKLING THE ISSUE, INCLUDING ZONING FOR WHERE DISPENSARIES COULD OPERATE. THEY NOTED, THAT NO ONE HAS COME FORWARD IN THAT COMMUNITY WITH A PLAN EAGER TO OPEN A DISPENSARY.

A Funeral Service for Deanne “Nanny” Johnson of Warroad, MN will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 11:00AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Warroad, MN. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 from 5-7PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Warroad, MN and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place in Devils Lake, ND at a later date.
Nanny passed away at the age of 66.

ROSEAU ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE WILL BE HOLDING THEIR 84TH ANNUAL MEETING ON SATURDAY, APRIL 6TH IN THE ROSEAU SCHOOL THEATER. REGISTRATION BEGINS AT 9 AM, WITH THE MEETING AT 10:00 FOLLOWED BY A LUNCHEON.

REPRESENTATIVE JOHN BURKEL AND SENATOR MARK JOHNSON ARE WORKING WITH THE KARLSTAD CITY COUNCIL, SEEKING MONEY FOR THE CITIES SHARE OF A KARLSTAD AIRPORT PROJECT. THE COUNCIL RECENTLY ACCEPTED THE LOW BID FOR THE PROJECT OF JUST OVER $12 MILLION. THE TWO HAVE INTRODUCED BILLS ASKING FOR A TOTAL NEARLY $7.7 MILLION.
