THE MINNESOTA DNR WILL BE OFFERING 10 ELK HUNTING LICENSES FOR SEASONS THIS FALL, AND HUNTERS HAVE UNTIL JUNE 15 TO APPLY. TWO OF THOSE WILL HAVE LANDOWNER STIPULATIONS, TWO WILL BE 10-YEAR HISTORY PERMITS, WHILE ONLY SIX WILL BE UP FOR GRABS IN THE GENERAL LOTTERY.

THE WILDLIFE DRIVE AT THE ROSEAU RIVER WMA WILL BE OPEN TO VEHICLE ACCESS MAY 18-19. THE MAIN ACCESS IS LOCATED 1 3/4 MILES SOUTH OF THE MANAGEMENT OFFICE ON ROSEAU COUNTY ROAD 3. ONLY VEHICLES THAT ARE LICENSES FOR HIGHWAY USE ARE ALLOWED ON THAT ROAD. WEATHER COULD STILL CAUSE A CHANGE IN PLANS. THE ROAD WOULD STILL PLANNED TO BE OPEN AT IT’S USUAL TIME LATER IN THE SUMMER.

A funeral service for Laurie Hart will take place on May 20, 2024 at Rose Free Lutheran Church in Roseau at 2:00 pm with a visitation an hour prior. Interment will take place at Moe-Rose Cemetery.

A Funeral Service for Luella E. Solberg will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024 at 10:00AM at Grace Evangelical Church in Strathcona, MN. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2024 from 5-7PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN with a prayer service at 6:30PM. Interment will take place at a later date.
Luella was 89.

THE ROSEAU VFW AUXILIARY 8663 WILL BE HOLDING THEIR ANNUAL POPPY DISTRIBUTION FROM MAY 20-25. THEY APPRECIATE YOUR SUPPORT.

SPRUCE CEMETERY IS HAVING A CLEAN UP DAY TODAY, BEGINNING AT 5:30 PM. THEY ASK ALL VOLUNTEERS TO BRING THEIR OWN TOOLS, AND ALL HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

THIEF RIVER FALLS WILL BE NEGOTIATING WITH OAK VIEW GROUP 360 TO MANAGE FOUR VENUES IN THE CITY, INCLUDING RALPH ENGELSTAD ARENA. THAT GROUP CURRENTLY MANAGES THE ALERUS CENTER IN GRAND FORKS. THE CITY COUNCIL ANNOUNCED IN DECEMBER THAT IT WOULD LOOK TO TERMINATE THEIR CONTRACT WITH VENUWORKS. IN 2023, THE FOUR FACILITIES UNDER VENUWORKS MANAGEMENT OPERATED AT A LOSS OF OVER $500,000.

REPRESENTATIVE MICHELLE FISHBACH ALONG WITH BRAD FINSTAD, A REP FROM DISTRICT 1, INTRODUCED THE FARMER ACT, WHICH WOULD STRENGTHEN CROP INSURANCE AND MAKE HIGHER LEVELS OF COVERAGE MORE AFFORDABLE TO PRODUCERS. THE ACT IS ENDORSED BY MANY AGRICULTURAL ORGANIZATIONS AND HAS CO-SPONSORS IN IOWA AND KANSAS.

Governor Tim Walz will visit a child care center in the west metro to announce the recipients of $6 million in new grants to expand child care across the state. The funding comes from the Department of Employment and Economic Development and is expected to create over 2,200 child care slots.
