THE CITY OF CROOKSTON AND DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION CONTINUE A CORRIDOR STUDY ON HIGHWAY 2 THROUGH THE CITY, A STRETCH THAT HAS PROVEN DANGEROUS FOR MOTORISTS, PEDESTRIANS, AND CYCLISTS. AT AN OPEN HOUSE ON MONDAY, TWO ALTERNATIVES WERE PRESENTED. OPTION A WOULD KEEP HIGHWAY 2 AS TWO SEPARATE ONE-WAY STREETS, BUT REDUCE THE LANES FROM 3 TO 2 WITH OTHER IMPROVEMENTS, WHILE OPTION B WOULD HAVE HIGHWAY 2 ONLY USING MAIN STREET AND IT BECOME A TWO-WAY STREET. FROM THOSE IN ATTENDANCE, OPTION A RECEIVED GREATER SUPPORT.
FRONTLINE WORKERS CAN BEGIN APPLYING FOR $750 HERO PAYCHECKS ON JUNE 8. THEY ESTIMATE 667,000 MINNESOTANS WOULD BE ELIGIBLE IF ALL CHOOSE TO APPLY. THOSE CHECKS WOULD THEN START TO BE SENT OUT IN SEPTEMBER.

THE DNR DID EXTEND THE SHINER TRAPPING SEASON BY TWO DAYS, OR UNTIL WATER TEMPERATURES REACH 55 DEGREES, HOWEVER THAT ANNOUNCEMENT HAD COME AFTER TRAPPERS HAD REMOVED THEIR EQUIPMENT FROM THE WATER, AND SOME SAY THEY WON’T BOTHER PUTTING THEM BACK IN.
BALLOTS FOR STATEWIDE ELECTIONS FOR TOWNSHIPS IN ROSEAU COUNTY THAT HAVE ELECTED TO VOTE BY MAIL WILL BE MAILED TO REGISTERED VOTERS IN THOSE TOWNSHIPS BEGINNING JUNE 24 FOR THE PRIMARY ELECTIONS AND SEPTEMBER 23 FOR THE GENERAL ELECTION.
