The Biden administration asked a federal judge to reinstate a Trump-era rule that removed Endangered Species Act protections for the gray wolf. U.S. Department of Justice attorneys argued that a lower federal district court erred in 2022 when it overturned the rule and reinstated the species’ protections. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources already has an updated wolf management plan that allows for wolf hunting and trapping seasons if and when the federal status changes. The plan allows for wolf seasons at certain wolf populations but does not require seasons.
Friday’s filing does not change the current legal status of gray wolves in the U.S.
A NUMBER OF AREA PUBLICATIONS THIS PAST WEEK HAS PUT THE FOCUS ON SCHOOL BACKPACK PROGRAMS, THAT HELP TO PROVIDE ELEMENTARY AGED CHILDREN WITH NUTRITIOUS FOOD TO TAKE HOME ON FRIDAYS, ENSURING THEY HAVE ENOUGH FOOD TO EAT OVER THE WEEKEND. IN ROSEAU, 125 STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES TAKE PART IN THE PROGRAM. THE ROSEAU AREA FOOD SHELF, WITH HELP FROM SUPER ONE FOODS, VOLUNTEERS, AND ROSEAU HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS PACK AND DELIVER THOSE MEALS. ANNUALLY, THE PROGRAM EXCEEDS OVER $16,000 IN GOODS.
MINNESOTA FARM FAMILIES AND CENTURY FARMS WERE RECENTLY RECOGNIZED AND DESIGNATED. THE JOHNSON FAMILY WAS A ROSEAU COUNTY FARM FAMILY OF THE YEAR, RECNGONIZED FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE AG INDUSTRY AND THEIR COMMUNITY. THERE WERE FIVE NEW CENTRUY FARMS ACROSS SENATE DISTRICT 1, NONE HOWEVER, IN ROSEAU COUNTY, THERE WAS ONE IN STEPHEN AND ANOTHER IN LANCASTER.
A Funeral Service for Ronni D. Peterson of Greenbush, MN will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 2:00PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will take place at America Cemetery in Warroad, MN.
Ronnie was 51.
A memorial service to celebrate Hazel Mckeever will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 11:00am at Zion Lutheran Church. Friends and family are invited to gather to honor the life of a remarkable woman who touched so many lives.
