THE NORTH COUNTRY FOOD BANK DISTRIBUTED SIX THOUSAND POUNDS OF FROZEN FOOD YESTERDAY AT THE ROSEAU ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE IN JUST OVER HALF AN HOUR. THAT EFFORT WAS IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE ROSEAU AREA FOOD SHELF. ANOTHER DISTRIBUTION WAS YESTERDAY AFTERNOON AT THE WARROAD HIGH SCHOOL.
GOVERNOR WALZ ANNOUNCED THE STATE’S PLAN FOR REOPENING SCHOOLS THIS FALL. THE FINAL CALL WILL COME DOWN TO EACH INDIVIUAL DISTRICT WITH GUIDANCE FROM THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH, WITH THE GUARANTEE THAT IF A SCHOOL DOES REOPEN, ALL FAMILIES AND STAFF MEMBERS WILL HAVE THE ABILITY TO OPT OUT, AND LEARN OR WORK FROM HOME.
HE ALSO ANNOUCNED AN ADDITIONAL 250 MILLION DOLLARS IN FUNDING TO HELP WITH OPERATIONAL COSTS, TO HELP PROVIDE FACEMASKS FOR STUDENTS AND STAFF, TO IMPLEMENT A COMPREHENSIVE COVID-19 TESTING FOR TEACHERS AND STAFF, AND HELP IN PROVIDING ADDITIONAL STUDENT, FAMILY AND STAFF SUPPORT FOR MENTAL HEALTH, TUTORS, TECH NAVIGATION SUPPORT AND MORE.
THE WARROAD SCHOOL DISTRICT HAS ANNOUNCED THAT WITHIN THOSE GUIDELINES, AND IF SPREAD OF COVID-19 REMAINS SIMILAR TO CURRENT LEVELS, THEY WILL BE SET FOR A FIRST DAY OF IN-PERSON LEARNING ON SEPTEMBER 8TH. STRINGENT DISTANCING PROTOCALS WILL BE IN PLACE, AND STATE MANDATED FACEMASK GUILDELINES WILL BE FOLLOWED. THEY HAVE SENT A SURVEY TO ALL FAMILIES WHO WOULD LIKE TO INDICATE THEIR DESIRE TO TAKE PART IN DISTANCE LEARNING. THEY ARE ALSO INQUIRING ABOUT FAMILIES THAT WOULD BE WILLING TO TRANSPORT THEIR CHILDREN, AS BUSSING COULD CAUSE DISTANCING ISSUES FOR RIDERS.
