ROSEAU COUNTY CANVASSES BALLOTS FROM LAST WEEK’S ELECTION ON FRIDAY.   THERE WERE MORE THAN  EIGHTY-FOUR HUNDRED VOTES CAST IN THE COUNTY.    AUDITOR/RECORDER  MARTIE MONSRUD SAID HER OFFICE HAD RECEIVED 17 BALLOTS IN THE MAIL SINCE LAST TUESDAY,  ALL POSTMARKED ON OR BEFORE NOVEMBER  3RD.

SERVICES ARE PENDING FOR JOHN WALSH OF BADGER.   IN LIEU OF FLOWERS,  MEMORIALS ARE PREFERRED TO THE ST MARY’S CEMETERY FUND IN BADGER. JOHN WALSH WAS  90.

A PUBLIC VISITATION FOR IONE  CARLSON OF ROOSEVELT,  FOLLOWING MINNESOTA COVID GUIDELINES,  IS FRIDAY EVENING  (5-7 PM)  AT THE UNION CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH IN WARROAD.  PRIVATE GRAVESIDE SERVICES ARE SATURDAY MORNING  (11:15 A.M.)  AT MOUNT CARMEL CEMETERY,  NORTH OF ROOSEVELT. IONE  CARLSON WAS  86.

THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SAID ROSEAU COUNTY HAD A DOZEN NEW CONFIRMED COVID CASES YESTERDAY,  FOR A TOTAL OF  589 SINCE APRIL.

ROSEAU COUNTY OFFICIALS RECEIVED A LETTER FROM MINNESOTA HEALTH COMMISSIONER JAN MALCOLM THIS WEEK,  SAYING ROSEAU COUNTY HAS A COVID POSITIVITY RATE GREATER THAN FIVE PERCENT …. WHICH MEANS THE SPREAD OF THE CORONAVIRUS IN ROSEAU COUNTY HAS  “REACHED A CONCERNING LEVEL”.

A MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL FOR KATHRYN  STAY OF BAUDETTE IS THIS AFTERNOON AT TWO  AT SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH IN BAUDETTE.  BURIAL IS AT ELM PARK CEMETERY. KATHRYN  STAY  WAS  79.

A GRAVESIDE SERVICE FOR THEODORE SHIMPA OF ROSEAU IS TOMORROW AFTERNOON AT ONE  AT BETHEL LUTHERAN CEMETERY IN GREENBUSH.  VISITATION IS THIS EVENING  (5-8 PM)  AT COLLINS FUNERAL CHAPEL IN GREENBUSH. TEDDY SHIMPA WAS  75.

IT’S BEEN A BUSY SUMMER AT THE RED LAKE WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA,  WITH RESEARCH PROJECTS ON SPRUCE GROUSE AND SEVERAL SPECIES OF SONGBIRDS. GRETCHEN MEHMEL,  AT NORRIS CAMP,  SAYS THE COMING WINTER MEANS MORE WORK FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES …. THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT RECENTLY EASED PROTECTIONS FOR TIMBERWOLVES,  MEANING THE STATE  D.N.R.  AND TRIBES WOULD BE IN CHARGE OF MANAGEMENT.

ROSEAU POLICE CHIEF WARD ANDERSON TOLD THE CITY COUNCIL LAST WEEK THAT HIS DEPARTMENT HAS BEEN ONE OFFICER SHORT FOR THE PAST TWO MONTHS;  THAT THEY’RE STRUGGLING TO FIND PART-TIME POLICE OFFICERS.

LUTHERAN SOCIAL SERVICES WILL BE PROVIDING MEALS FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS AT VARIOUS SITES THROUGH THE END OF THE YEAR, USING A COVID-19 GRANT FROM THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION. CINDY CHRISTOPHERSON,  IN KARLSTAD,  WAS ASKED WHETHER THE PANDEMIC IS DRIVING THE LOCAL DEMAND FOR THOSE MEALS …

THERE IS ANOTHER START DATE THIS MONTH FOR MATH AND READING TUTORS IN THE WARROAD AND ROSEAU SCHOOLS. ANDREW LOWDEN IS A MATH AND READING CORPS RECRUITER FOR AMERICORPS …. THIS PAST SUMMER,  THE WARROAD AND ROSEAU SCHOOLS WERE LOOKING FOR THIRTEEN TUTORS,  WHO ARE PAID.
