Funeral services for Otto L. Kaml, Jr. of Badger, MN will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 11:00AM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 Friday, May 27 at the funeral home. Interment to be at Badger City Cemetery.
Otto Kaml passed away May 23, 2022 at the age of 83.
Otto Ludwig Kaml Jr. was born March 30, 1939 on the family farm in Barnett Township in rural Badger to parents Otto Sr. and Ada (Kranz) Kaml. “Junior” as he was known most of his life, attended school in rural Badger and worked for area farmers as well as larger farms in Warren and Argyle, Minnesota. Otto also worked in Montana. Otto Jr. and his future wife of over 60 years, Muriel Solvik, first met at the home of his Uncle George Kaml. George lived near Muriel’s parents’ home in rural Warren, Minnesota. Years later, they marred on December 18, 1961 in Crookston, Minnesota. Otto Jr. worked with his dad some in cutting wood and would later move the growing family to the Iron Range of Minnesota, living in several places. The family would return to the farm in Badger in 1968. Otto Jr. was skilled at welding as well as fixing broken machinery and vehicles. Otto Jr. kept busy with dairy cattle and small grains and helped clean water wells that had become clogged with sand or gravel. He would later sell the dairy cows and raised beef cattle along with other farm animals. Otto Jr. loved having family around for the annual fall deer hunt as well as fishing, whether on the ice or on open water. He especially enjoyed his time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Otto Jr. was later diagnosed with Parkinsons and although his body failed him many times, he never gave up nor took a defeatist attitude. As per his wishes, following a sudden heart attack, he was able to return to the farm and passed away there surrounded by family.
Otto Jr. was dedicated to sharing his faith as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He found joy and encouragement in reading the Bible although reading was not easy having only finished 8th grade. He often spoke of the troubling times we see today and of God’s promise to soon do away with the wickedness, suffering and death that we experience, and of the resurrection giving us all hope for a better future.
Otto Jr. is survived by his wife Muriel, daughter Nancy (Bob) Miller, son James Kaml, daughter Tammy (Desmond) Lafreniere and grandchildren: Jonathan, Nicole, Jessica, Nolan, Karissa, Trista, Nicole and Paul; and great-grandchildren: Asher, Abby, Hunter, Clayton, Bellemi, Daxtyn, Kezia, Liam, Aveya, Olivia, and Genevieve. He is predeceased by his son Jerry M. Kaml, parents Otto Sr. and Ada, sister Jean Williamson, sister Lillian Gust, brother Dale Kaml and sister Lucille Kaml.
